PA10 Portable Headphone Amp
The PA10 portable headphone amp is the first Astell&Kern product to feature a Class-A amp. Class-A AMPs offer the best linear output, providing soft, warm, and natural sounds by amplifying signals without distortions or defect. This characteristic makes it the most sought-after amplification method by music lovers, though it is rarely used for portable audio devices as it requires high power consumption and a design that is difficult for a small device.
Based on a unique circuit design from Astell&Kern that reduces power consumption and increases output while removing noise, the AK PA10 is specifically designed to deliver the amazing sounds of an Class-A AMP anywhere and at any time.
Sufficient AMP output is required to extract all the subtle nuances in music when played back through varying headphones and IEMs. With multiple gain levels, you can choose the optimal gain setting that offers the best sound of the headphone and IEM that you use to enjoy crystal-clear sounds. The AK PA10 brings out the full potential that your audio device has to offer. When connected to the balanced input, AK PA10 can support up to 6.2 Vrms output at high gain.
Most portable headphone AMPs switch 3.5mm Unbalanced signals to 4.4mm Balanced signals or do not support a 4.4mm Balanced connection at all. Such input/output combinations limit users from using the pure balanced output of the source device resulting in loss of signal during the transition process. Rare for a portable Class-A AMP, the AK PA10 supports 4.4mm True Balanced input/output for high output and vivid audio.
Also supported are 3.5mm unbalanced input/output ports so that you can use the PA10 with a wider variety of devices.
The AK PA10 features a crossfeed function is implemented exclusively by hardware circuit design, not by digital software, offering a more seamless and sophisticated crossfeed effect without degrading the original sound. Crossfeed mixes some of the signals from one channel and sends them to the opposite channel with a slight delay, creating a more central and natural sound, recreating sounds similar to that of listening via a speaker system, subsequently reducing listening fatigue.
A built-in 4,200 mAh battery provides up to 12 hours of continuous playback.
Pre-orders for the AK PA10 ($599 US/$799 CAD) begin on Friday, January 20 with a release date of Monday, February 13, 2023 at authorized Astell&Kern dealers in the US and Canada.

Astell&Kern Launches New Flagship Digital Audio Player, the A&ultima SP3000
Astell&Kern, a global leader in high-resolution audio products and accessories, announces the newest digital audio player (DAP) in its flagship line, the A&ultima SP3000. The A&ultima SP3000 is Astell&Kern’s newest flagship product that is the essence of everything the company has learned and engineered over the last 10+ years. Available in October 2022 in black or silver, the SP3000 will retail for $3,699 at authorized Astell&Kern dealers in the US and Canada. The A&ultima SP3000 will make its global debut at CanJam SoCal September 17 – 18, 2022 at the Irvine Marriott in Orange County, California.
The A&ultima SP3000 includes several new features implemented for the first time in a portable digital audio player. These features include:
First Use of AKM’s Latest Flagship DAC with Complete Separation of Digital and Analog Signals in a HEXA-Audio Circuitry Structure
The A&ultima SP3000 is the first product to use Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) latest flagship DAC, the AKM AK4499EX and features a complete separation of digital and analog signals in a HEXA structure design. Astell&Kern worked with AKM from the initial development stage to develop the DAC and circuit structure.
As a result of this collaboration, the world's first four AK4499EX DACs, AKM's latest flagship, were applied to the SP3000, and the innovative HEXA-audio circuitry structure design in which two AK4191EQs that process digital signals are applied separately, complete the amazing sound that can only be found from Astell&Kern.
Most digital players process digital and analog signals together inside the DAC. However, the SP3000’s advanced HEXA structure reduces the noise of the digital signal input using the AK4191EQ, a separate digital delta-sigma modulator, and then the AK4499EX DAC processes the analog signals separately.
By applying this unique design where digital and analog signal processing is physically separated for the first time in a digital audio player, it is possible to experience an incredible level of sound that has never been experienced before.
Stunning Audio Performance with Independent Dual Audio Circuits
To create not just a great DAP, but a truly innovative DAP, Astell&Kern tried to overcome the limitations of sound by envisioning an independent dual audio circuit for unbalanced and balanced outputs.
Almost all other DAPs, including previous Astell&Kern models, use the same internal DAC for both unbalanced and balanced outputs. Since the signal from the DAC is divided into unbalanced and balanced then delivered to the AMP, an Audio Switch is essential. When using a switch, there is a limit to the range of signal sent by the DAC, so most DAPs reduce the signal size first and then when the signal is transmitted back to the amplifier, it is necessary to restore the original signal size. This causes a limitation in improving the audio performance.
To overcome the limitations, Astell&Kern engineers designed a HEXA structure using two AK4191EQs and four AK4499EXs, creating an innovative unbalanced and balanced independent dual audio circuit design. As a result, the SP3000 achieves a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of 130dB, the best of any DAP available. You can feel the clean, pure delicacy of sound produced by the SP3000 that you cannot not experience in any other DAP.
Latest Snapdragon Octa-Core CPU
The A&ultima SP3000 is equipped with a Snapdragon 6125 Octa-core processor and 8GB of DDR4 memory, which is twice the amount of RAM commonly used in DAPs. Along with a redesigned 4th generation user interface, the player features a more powerful system that is stable with fast and fluid movement.
The CPU, memory and wireless communication parts are configured as one module, with the digital circuit parts arranged in the same area creating a single system on a chip (SoC). This maximizes the efficiency of the overall circuit configuration by providing more audio-only circuit space as well as reducing heat and noise from digital circuits.
New 4th Generation Graphic User Interface
With the newly developed 4th generation UX/UI, the SP3000 is focused on the process and experience of listening to music.
The new theme is designed with a focus on the experience of rediscovering songs that you have forgotten; you can quickly browse through music categories with simple gestures. A convenient search feature along with album art has been added so that you can enjoy a digital display of CD album covers of your music collection. It is designed to give you not only the pleasure of listening to music, but also to create fun when operating the device.
With the new Crimson Theme, one of the main features of the 4th generation UI, the graphics are simple and unintrusive, focusing on usability and intuitiveness. Three key concepts, Edge, Simple, and Dark Mode, were used to improve usability and increase clarity with a style unique to AK. The black and red theme colors are chosen to reduce eye fatigue, maximize battery usage and reduce heat generation.
World’s First Use of Stainless Steel 904L for DAP Body Material
To achieve the goal of the A&ultima series, which is 'to provide the best value that no one can imitate while using the most innovative and uncompromising design and craftsmanship', the SP3000 uses 904L stainless steel material for the player body. Using this material has expanded its value from just a digital device to the realm of a luxury good.
904L stainless steel is harder and more difficult to process than general stainless steel requiring significantly more time and effort. Due to its excellent durability and corrosion resistance, it will not lose its beauty and is why it is used in expensive luxury watches where perfection in all materials and parts must be pursued with an irreplaceable and wonderful luster.
Included with the SP3000 is a French goatskin leather case to protect and highlight the beauty of the 904L stainless steel body. The case is made by ALRAN, located in Tarn in southern France, a historical tannery that was established in 1903 and has been manufacturing leather for over 100 years. It is one of the world’s leading tanneries, well-known for their natural leather manufacturing technology since the 1980’s. ALRAN is recognized as the best goatskin manufacturer and supplies other leading luxury brands.
The leather case included with the SP3000 is developed with ALRAN Tannery's unique Hand-Boarding technology. This is a technology that processes the leather by rubbing it in various directions using wooden planks, so you can feel the texture of the surface. This process is unique compared to how other goatskin cases are produced.
The player includes 256GB of internal memory with support for microSD cards up to 1TB, dual-band 2.4/5Ghz a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, DLNA networking, USB digital audio output, USB-C for data transfer and charging, and the ability to use the SP3000 as a USB DAC for your Mac or Windows-based PC. A 5.46” full HD (1920x1080 resolution) touch screen provides a high-resolution display. The SP3000 supports native playback of high-res PCM music up to 32-bit, 768kHz and DSD512.
ReplayGain automatically and uniformly adjusts playback volume across different music tracks. Using AK File Drop, you can freely transfer files wirelessly through a PC, smartphone, or FTP program located on the same network. Music file management is now possible with a cableless, wireless solution.
The SP3000 adds support for both aptX HD and LDAC™ codecs to provide audiophiles with multiple options for 24-bit audio playback wirelessly. Latest generation Bluetooth 5.0 features faster transmission speed and greater range compared to Bluetooth 4.2, therefore providing a more stable wireless connection. BT Sink allows the SP3000 to connect to an external device via Bluetooth, and function as a Bluetooth DAC. Music from an external device, such as a smartphone can now be played back in high-quality, taking full advantage of the advanced audio innovations found in the SP3000.
Qualcomm QC 3.0 fast charging allows you to charge your DAP faster and more efficiently than previous models, reaching a full charge in about 3.5 hours.
In a headphone environment in which the left and right channels are clearly separated, ear fatigue may increase during prolonged listening. The Crossfeed setting in the SP3000 mixes parts of the original signal from one channel and sends that signal to the opposite channel with a time difference to center the sound image. This effect provides the headphone user with a sound profile similar to listening to the same music track in a room with full-sized speakers. Using detailed settings such as Shelf Cutoff, Shelf Gain, and Mixer Level, you can set the level of crossfeed according to your listening preferences.
The SP3000 will add Roon Ready support pending completion of testing and final certification by Roon Labs.
The SP3000 in black or silver color will be available in October 2022 for $3,699 at authorized Astell&Kern dealers in the US and Canada.

Astell&Kern is always challenging the possibilities of infinite sound and striving for purest sound imaginable. Empire Ears is an uncompromising and prestigious manufacturer of IEMs that combine innovative design with the latest technology. Our two legacies are proof that attention to detail and visionary innovation conceive magnificent design. Together, Astell&Kern and Empire Ears collaborated to create Odyssey, a new IEM that exhibits the world class sound found in both Astell&Kern and Empire Ears flagship products.
Empire Ears’ never-ending pursuit of the extraordinary drove them to build an IEM that is unashamedly without compromise. Nothing else matters, but the most immersive listening experience. With technology harnessed from the Odin and Legend EVO IEM lines, Empire Ears has distilled everything they’ve learned into this epic collaboration to create the next generation in-ear monitor, Odyssey.
Quadbrid Design
At its core, Odyssey features a proprietary Quadbrid system composed of twin W9+ Subwoofers, 5 balanced Armature drivers, dual Electrostatics and a W10 Bone Conductor driver. The 7-way synX cross over network and EIVEC MKII Engine harmonize all 10 drivers of the Quadbrid system, ensuring perfect coherence and timing throughout its remarkable 5Hz – 100KHz frequency response range.
Empire Ears develops and builds several of their drivers rather than outsourcing them from other manufacturers. Designing bespoke high-performance drivers in-house gives them the freedom to develop record-breaking technology unrestricted by industry limitations or compromises. The Odyssey is proof of concept of the incredible engineering at Empire Ears. The Odyssey boasts four of the latest and most advanced IEM driver technologies available:
Dual Conduction Architecture
The no-compromise philosophy of Empire Ears inspired the development of their Dual Conduction Architecture for IEMs – a revolutionary method of audio reproduction through both air and bone conduction to maximize listener immersion with a sound that you cannot only hear but feel, guaranteeing the purest experience possible. The Odyssey fully exploits the best of both worlds with its pioneering Dual Conduction Architecture (DCA). A full range 5Hz-100kHz frequency response is delivered via air conduction from the dual W9+ subwoofers, five balanced armatures and dual electrostatics while imaging, soundstage, detail retrieval, low frequency extension and reverb is extraordinarily enhanced from 5Hz-40kHz via bone conduction from the W10. Using DCA and Empire’s masterful tuning the Odyssey reproduces the most immersive, pure, and stereophonic sound possible.
synX Crossover Technology
Genetically dissimilar from the rest of the IEM world, Empire Ears synX crossover network truly stands out with countless bespoke methods and technologies protecting it as a unique masterpiece. A marriage of 4 different driver technologies become symphonized by a unique, proprietary 7-way synX crossover network designed to maximize performance from each and every driver.
EIVEC MKII
The all-new EIVEC MKII engine was developed specifically for Odyssey to ensure optimal timing, phasing, and control between the electrostatic and bone conduction drivers – a monumental achievement. Empire Intelligent Variable Electrostatic Control – EIVEC - is Empire’s approach to incorporating electrostatic EST drivers into IEMs. For all the incredible range and resolution, electrostatic drivers are notoriously hard to control, often overpowering other drivers. EIVEC is our solution to that, and the degree of control provided by EIVEC is so precise that the electrostatics can operate independently, performing disparate tasks within the sound stage to deliver layer upon layer of detail and texture for unparalleled performance.
A.R.C. Treated Chassis
ARC (Anti-Resonance Compound) is a proprietary conformal coating that virtually eliminates unwanted vibrations and resonance from within IEMs. This eliminates any unwanted sound and allows the tone of the drivers to be as pure as possible.
Dual Tri-Port Exhausts
Due to the nature of the W10’s extreme output the enclosure’s air volume and vent design were especially crucial for proper tuning. Even the slightest change in diameter and positioning had a dramatic effect on sound quality and performance. By mastering the W10’s volume requirements we’re able to harness its optimal output, capabilities, and potential.
ENIGMA – A Visual Masterpiece
Enigma is an ultra-exclusive, one-of-a-kind dichroic faceplate that features nine individual polymer layers in three proprietary lamination steps. Each lamination is unique in its ability to filter and reflect specific wavelengths of light. This results in a faceplate that will produce breathtaking color transitions as the viewing angle changes -- literally shifting before your very eye. ]]>KANN MAX Player, HC2 USB-C Dual-DAC Cable and PATHFINDER IEMs Will Be Featured in Astell&Kern’s Booth at MOC Munchen Hall 1, D02/E03a
Astell&Kern, a global leader in high-resolution audio players and accessories, launches three new products at HIGH END Munich 2022. All three products, along with Astell&Kern current line of portable digital audio players and accessories will be on display at their HIGH END booth – HALL 1, D02/E03a from May 19 – 22, 2022. All three products will be available at authorized US/Canadian Astell&Kern dealers in June and July 2022.
KANN MAX becomes the fourth player in Astell&Kern’s KANN line of Digital Audio Players (DAP). The KANN series of portable high-resolution audio players are equipped with a more powerful, built-in headphone amplifier, which allows KANN players to drive any headphone, including high-impedance headphones, without the need for a separate amplifier. Users can select between four levels of gain - low, mid, high and super gain modes for up to 15 Vrms output to provide the precise output required to drive even the most demanding headphones.
As the output increases, so does the noise level. By separately configuring the power supply IC for each Audio Block divided into DAC, Volume, and AMP, KANN MAX is designed to stably supply the power required for each Audio IC. Through this design, the interference ripple noise of the DC-DC power supply (the shaking noise phenomenon that occurs when power is supplied) is removed. The allows the KANN MAX to provide high output with low noise.
KANN MAX features ESS ES9038Q2M DACs in a Quad-DAC configuration. By using Quad DACs, one DAC can be fully allocated to one channel, so the depth and realism of the sound source can be expressed to the fullest. KANN MAX supports native 32bit/768kHz and DSD512 playback and full support for MQA.
Connection options include a 3.5mm unbalanced, 2.5mm and 4.4mm balanced headphone outputs. KANN MAX features Bluetooth 5.0 which features faster transmission speed and greater range compared to Bluetooth 4.2, therefore providing a more stable wireless connection. Both LDAC™ and aptX™ HD are supported to provide audiophiles with 24-bit audio playback wirelessly.
Other features found on KANN MAX include:
KANN MAX includes a 4.1-inch 720x1280 HD touchscreen, 64GB of internal memory with support for microSD cards up to 1TB, Wi-Fi, DLNA networking, USB digital audio output, USB-C for data transfer and fast-charge support, and the ability to use KANN MAX as a USB DAC for your Mac or Windows-based PC. KANN MAX includes support for the most popular music streaming services including Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Spotify.
Roon Ready support will be available via a future firmware update pending testing and certification of the player by Roon Labs.
KANN MAX will be available in June 2022 at authorized Astell&Kern dealers in the US/Canada for $1,299.
Three cases for KANN MAX will also be available in June 2022, made of high-quality vegetable leather from CONCERIA WALPIER and BADALASSI CARLO for $149.
HC2 – USB-C Dual DAC Cable (June 2022 - $249)
The HC2 is Astell&Kern’s second USB DAC/Headphone amplifier designed to provide playback of high-resolution audio from your computer or mobile device. With more mobile phone manufacturers removing headphone jacks from their devices, the Astell&Kern USB DAC Cable provides users the ability to get the best sound possible out of their mobile devices while using existing headphones they already own.
The Astell&Kern USB DAC Cable features two Cirrus Logic CS43198 MasterHIFI™ DACs which supports native playback of high-resolution audio up to DSD256 and 32bit/384kHz PCM. The dual CS43198 DACs are paired with an independent analog amplifier, designed to provide true audio playback so you can feel the live, warm and clear sound as intended, without distortion. This is made possible based on years of Astell&Kern’s expertise in AMP design. Although it is a small and simple cable type external DAC, it can sufficiently drive high impedance headphones with a 4 Vrms output level.
The Astell&Kern USB DAC cable features a USB-C connection, which can be found on the latest Android-based smartphones and Windows and Mac computers. Since the USB DAC Cable draws power from the playback device it is connected to, there is no need for a separate charger. The USB DAC Cable supports any headphone or earphone with a 4.4 mm balanced connector. An official MFi certified USB C to lightning adapter insures compatibility with iOS-based lightning port devices.
A dedicated app for detailed volume adjustment of the HC2 will be released soon for Android devices. The new Android app will also be compatible with the PEE51 USB-C DAC after a future firmware update.
The HC2 will be certified Roon Tested pending completion of the testing and certification process by Roon Labs.
The HC2 USC-C Dual DAC Cable will be available at authorized Astell&Kern dealers in the US and Canada in June 2022 for $249.
AK PATHFINDER IEM (July 2022 - $1,899)
The AK PATHFINDER becomes the second collaboration with IEM manufacturer Campfire Audio to produce in-ear monitors (IEMs) under the Astell&Kern brand. Pathfinder is a newly designed hybrid IEM not based on previous Campfire IEM.
PATHFINDER has a new Dual-Chamber Balanced Armature (BA) Driver from Knowles for the key part of the midrange, two BA drivers for high frequencies, as well as two dynamic drivers with a hybrid diaphragm that create bass and midrange.
Knowles’ new ‘Dual Chamber’ Balanced Armature Driver, used for the first time ever in PATHFINDER, is an innovative driver in which a single coil operates two individual diaphragms. It’s like a twin cylinder engine – delivering more horsepower and smoother operation compared to one with a single, larger piston.
Compared to a traditional BA with a single, larger diaphragm, the all-new design incorporates two chambers, each housing its own diaphragm and drive rod actuated by a single coil, resulting in a higher, more powerful output for its size than any other BA and is excellent at expressing a warmer and more natural midrange.
A Radial Venting Acoustic Chamber, newly developed by Campfire Audio, is applied to Dual Custom 10mm Dynamic Drivers. The 3D-printed chamber design naturally expresses the intense low-frequency sound produced by the two dynamic drivers while preserving the unique sound of the BA driver.
Beryllium Copper MMCX connectors are more resilient against wear and tear than regular brass connectors, providing a robust mating mechanism; one that is typically made from soft brass. This selection of a harder material extends the life of the component and the earphone.
PATHFINDER comes with three silver-plated copper cables (terminated in 3.5mm, 2.5mm and 4.4mm headphone jacks) allowing the earphones to reach their full performance potential. The silver-plated OFC copper Litz cable is a newly produced flat cable, with enameled silver-plated copper wire conductor to offer clearer, extended sounds. The flat cable prevents tangling, can be wound for easy storage, and has minimal cable distortion. It is over-molded for increased durability and finished with a metal housing.
In addition to the three cables, AK PATHFINDER includes five (5) pairs of Final Audio E-Type Tips (XS/S/M/L/XL), three (3) pairs of Campfire Audio Marshmallow Earphone Tips (S/M/L), three (3) pairs of Silicon Earphone Tips (S/M/L), Earphone Cleaning Tool, Leather Zipper Case, Earphone Protection Sleeve and Earphone Tips and Cable Storage Pouch. All IEMSs are handcrafted in Portland, Oregon by Campfire Audio.
AK PATHFINDER will be available in July 2022 at Astell&Kern dealers in the US and Canada for $1,899.

Astell&Kern, a global leader in portable high-resolution audio players and accessories, announces the company's newest Hybrid In-Ear Monitor (IEM), the AK Zero1. The AK Zero1 will be available at authorized Astell&Kern dealers in the US and Canada in November 2021 for $699.
The hybrid AK ZERO1 IEM combines the sounds of three unique driver technologies into one IEM. Composed of a Micro Rectangular Planar Dynamic Driver, two BA drivers, and a 5.6 mm Dynamic Driver, the AK ZERO1 harmonizes the characteristics of each driver to deliver the most natural sound to your ears.
The Micro Rectangular Planar Dynamic Driver is a specially developed driver with highly advanced technology that allows a planar driver, normally a very difficult driver to scale down, to be applied to in-ear monitors. Astell&Kern adopted a sturdy and lightweight planar membrane to minimize frequency loss and applied a vibration panel that features a high-polymer film with thin metal to create crystal clear high frequencies.
Two BA drivers are made using custom coil parameters and offer crystal-clear vocals with super-low distortion.
A 5.6 mm Dynamic Driver ensures rich, controlled and deep low frequencies.
An ideal frequency response was created through the Cross Over Network, which is designed based on a thorough understanding of each driver’s parameters. Each driver is then carefully placed in the optimal 3D position, enclosed in specifically designed acoustic chambers manufactured with precise 3D printing technology. This eliminates unnecessary movement and resonance of the drivers to ensure stable performance.
The housing, which is designed with Astell&Kern's unique advanced aluminum-refining technology, keeps resonance to a minimum and creates the highest-quality sound.
The AK Zero1 comes with a Hi-Fi Grade Pure Silver-Coated OFC 4 Core Cable with 3.5mm headphone jack. The Pure Silver-Coated OFC cable maximizes the performance of the Hybrid IEM AK ZERO1. It has been exquisitely crafted with high-purity silver plating and copper, and the aluminum plugs compliment the IEM housing. MMCX connectors provide a quality, long-lasting stable connection to the AK Zero1 earbud.
A 4.4mm balanced cable for the AK Zero1 will be available for purchase separately in November 2021 for $199.
Accessories include five (5) pairs of silicone ear tips and one pair of foam ear tips to provide the best fit and a leather carrying case.

Astell&Kern, a global leader in high-resolution audio players and accessories, announces Roon Tested certification of their first USB DAC/Headphone amplifier designed to provide playback of high-resolution audio from your computer or mobile device.
Roon is a rich and engaging way to browse, organize, and listen to music. Artist photos, credits, bios, reviews, lyrics, tour dates, and composers are located automatically, then interconnected by links to build a surfable digital magazine. Roon is also a multi-room, multi-user networked audio platform, it offers features such as bit-perfect playback, DSD and PCM upsampling, multichannel support, and Signal Path display.
What does it mean to be Roon Tested?
All Roon Tested devices are profiled by Roon’s QA Team so that Roon can identify them and automatically configure its settings to be optimized for them. This means that you can now just plug the USB-C Dual DAC Cable in your computer or mobile device running Roon and know you will be able to enjoy the best in high performance.
Although it is a small and simple cable type external DAC, it is able to sufficiently drive high impedance headphones with a 2Vrms (Condition No Load) output level.
The Astell&Kern USB DAC cable features a USB-C connection, which can be found on the latest Android-based smartphones and Windows and Mac computers. Since the USB DAC Cable draws power from the playback device it is connected to, there is no need for a separate charger. The USB DAC Cable supports any headphone or earphone with a 3.5mm connector.
The cable used in the USB DAC is a custom-made, 4-core cable designed by Astell&Kern to provide the best sound possible and enhance durability. The cable is reinforced to withstand up to 200N of tensile force using aramid fiber.
The all-metal body of the USB DAC uses the design concept of “light and shadow” that is used in all Astell&Kern products. The USB DAC Cable design is based on a single centerline that boldly crosses from right to left. The faces were arranged by adjusting the angle ratio so that the sharp faces of the upper four faces meet at one point. It is designed so that each side is reflected according to the movement of light.
To make the grip comfortable for one-handed use, the surface was created to be like a pebble that has been smoothly polished by the natural weathering effect of stone, rather than featuring the sharper angles typically found in existing Astell&Kern products. This product design provides a nice, smooth feeling when holding the cable in your hand.
The weight of the metal material used reflects the same durability and solid feel compared to other Astell&Kern devices.
The Astell&Kern USB DAC Cable is compatible with most Android-based smartphones and tablets, computers running Windows 10 and MacOS. iOS-based devices, such as iPhones and iPads are currently not supported.
You can now bring the famous Astell&Kern signature sound to your devices for a reasonable price.

TERATON ALPHA is AK's ultimate Sound Solution to produce audio playback that is close to the original sound through the use of effective power noise removal, efficient power consumption and amplification without compromise through the audio output interface.
Many people have similar ideas about sound. They assume "it is the DAC that determines the sound in the DAP, and in the end, if you use the same DAC, the sound will be similar for each product."
The DAC does play a large part of the sound signature in a DAP, but it's not the only factor that determines the level of sound.
TERATON (teratone), was born based on the technology developed by Astell&Kern. It is a compound word comprising of Tera, which means 10 trillion + Tone, which represents the device and vast A+ tone of Astell&Kern.
DAPs can be largely divided into three areas: power, amplifier and interface.
The starting point of Astell&Kern's perfect sound delivery is the audio technology that most effectively removes power noise and converts the signal, which is essential to the power of the audio.
Related Patent: Hi-Fi audio device and method to remove power noise
The reason why the same DAC produces different sound signatures is because of differences in AMP design. Astell&Kern's advanced AMP technology features efficient power consumption and powerful amplification that produces the best audio performance without compromise.
Related Patent: Audio wiring structure for improving crosstalk
The audio interface that converts digital signals to analog and outputs them is composed of technology developed by Astell&Kern and perfected over the years. The result is perfect sound, without noise.
Related Patent: Audio signal muting device and digital signal conversion, etc.
TERATON ALPHA features Astell&Kern's patented technologies, which are the result of tens of thousands of hours of continuous research and development to produce sound close to the original sound the artist and producer intended.

The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) with the default SEM1 module is an incredible 129dB, not seen in other products with this high output.
New Navigation bar for easier navigation
To provide more convenient movement through the player user interface that is consistent with an Android smartphone experience, the SE180 features a new navigation bar, the first in an Astell&Kern player.
Now you can easily navigate with a single touch and deliver music playback information from any screen. The new one swipe feature moves you to the previous screen.
AK File Drop to enjoy wireless transfers
The new AK File Drop function in the SE180 makes files transfers easier and more convenient. Using AK File Drop, you can freely transfer files wirelessly through a PC, smartphone, or FTP program located on the same network.
Music file management is now possible with a cableless, wireless solution.
Wireless Hi-Fi Sound Through BT Sync
The newly introduced BT Sync function connects the SE180 to an external device via Bluetooth, similar to connecting a smartphone with a BT speaker. Music from an external device, such as a smartphone can now be played back in high-quality on the SE180 using the BT Sync function.
Full HD Touchscreen
The SE180 features a 5” full HD (1920x1080 resolution) screen to provide a higher quality display.
Some of the most popular features found in other Astell&Kern players are also included in the SE180, such as LED lighting around the volume wheel which displays different colors of light, including red, green, blue, and purple to reflect music playback information including volume range, bit-rate of track currently playing and the current DAC that is being used for playback of music. New firmware updates for the SP2000, SP1000, SP1000M, SE200, SE100, SR25 and KANN ALPHA will be released in May 2021, which will contain an updated embedded Tidal app to fix the authentication issues.
There is an issue with the new Tidal authentication policies on the following players – KANN CUBE, SA700, SR15, CT15 and CT10. We are looking into ways to continue to support the Tidal app on these players. More information will be available in May 2021.
Tidal is dropping support for older model Android devices. Unfortunately this means Tidal can no longer be supported on the following players due to the new authentication requirements - AK380, AK320, AK300, KANN, AK70 MKII, AK70, AK240, AK120II, AK100II.
]]>Astell&Kern, a global leader in high-resolution audio players and accessories, launches their first USB DAC/Headphone amplifier designed to provide playback of high-resolution audio from your computer or mobile device. With more mobile phone manufacturers removing headphone jacks from their devices, the Astell&Kern USB Dual-DAC Cable provides users the ability to get the best sound possible out of their mobile devices while using existing headphones they already own.
The Astell&Kern USB-C Dual DAC Cable will be available in May 2021 at authorized Astell&Kern dealers for $149.

Astell&Kern, a global leader in portable high-resolution audio players and accessories, announces Roon Ready certification of two players from the A&ultima line of flagship players. The SP1000 and SP2000 will become Roon Ready via a firmware update to be released over the air (OTA) on March 16, 2021.
With the addition of Roon Ready certification, Astell&Kern once again sets the bar for portable high-resolution audio players by adding new features to provide audiophiles with the ultimate audio experience.
Being Roon Ready means that Astell&Kern players transparently discover and connect to Roon without any configuration, and bit-perfect audio is delivered from Roon to the player.
Together, Roon and Astell&Kern deliver the power, flexibility, and performance of networked audio, with the easiest setup and highest reliability available.
The first two Astell&Kern players to receive Roon Ready certification are:
Astell&Kern A&ultima SP2000

Irvine, CA - Astell&Kern, a global leader in portable high-resolution audio players, announces KANN ALPHA, the third model in the KANN performance line of digital audio players. KANN ALPHA will be available in late September/Early October 2020 at Astell&Kern dealers worldwide for $1,099.
The KANN series of portable high-resolution audio players are equipped with a more powerful, built-in headphone amplifier, which allows KANN players to drive any headphone, including high-impedance headphones, without the need for a separate amplifier. Users can select between low, mid and high gain modes to provide the precise output required to drive your favorite headphones. Output on KANN ALPHA via the 2.5mm or 4.4mm balanced output is 12Vrms.
KANN ALPHA is the first Astell&Kern player to feature a 4.4mm Pentaconn headphone jack. Users now have more options of headphones and IEMs to pair with KANN ALPHA without worrying about the need for adapters. Another first for Astell&Kern players, KANN ALPHA features Bluetooth 5.0 which features faster transmission speed and greater range compared to Bluetooth 4.2, therefore providing a more stable wireless connection. Both LDAC™ and aptX™ HD are supported to provide audiophiles with 24-bit audio playback wirelessly.
KANN ALPHA features complete separation of the 2.5mm and 4.4mm balanced outputs to provide noise-free audio playback. When 2.5mm and 4.4mm structures are connected only to the general mute circuit, as is the case with players from other manufacturers, they do not prevent noise interference that may occur because each output signal is not properly blocked. KANN ALPHA boasts noise-free output because Astell&Kern built an independent structure that completely blocks interference from outputs by switching off outputs that are not being used, therefore preventing noise from occurring.
With the latest quad-core processor, the user playback experience is fluid throughout navigating menu options and playing back your favorite music tracks. Other features include a 5.0-inch HD touchscreen, 64GB of internal memory with support for microSD cards up to 1TB, Wi-Fi, DLNA networking, USB digital audio output, USB-C for data transfer and fast-charge support, and the ability to use KANN ALPHA as a USB DAC for your Mac or Windows-based PC.
KANN ALPHA supports native 32bit/384kHz and DSD256 playback and features LED lighting around the volume wheel which displays different colors of light, including red, green, blue, and purple to reflect music playback information including volume range and the bit-rate of track currently playing. Running a customized version of Android 9.0 optimized for music playback, KANN ALPHA features 14 ½ hours of playback time on a single charge.
Although KANN ALPHA has a much higher output than most portable players, the player features a redesigned power circuit that provides stable power to the player while suppressing electrical noise. A newly developed audio circuit design provides a never before seen crosstalk measurement of 141dB, which is unmatched by any other portable audio product in its class.
Two (2) ESS ES9068AS DACs are arranged in a dual-mono configuration, providing a wider soundstage and better stereo separation. MQA hardware rendering is built into the ES9068AS DACs and support MQA 8x rendering. MQA-CD playback is also supported on KANN ALPHA when playing MQA-CDs using the AK CD-Ripper (available separately). You now do not need special, expensive equipment to play back master quality audio CDs. The listener can also further customize their sound by choosing from a variety of DAC filters provided by the DAC manufacturer.
The aluminum body on the KANN ALPHA provides maximum sound quality, while suppressing noise as much as possible. The use of laser ground extension technology provides the best sound possible, without interference or distortion. In order to minimize contact noise from the output, a gold PVD coating method is applied to the headphone connectors instead of the typical rings used by other manufacturers’ products. This improves both design and function of the headphone outputs and adds a beautiful contrast to the all-black finish of the player. A special coating is also applied to the top ceramic surface to prevent fingerprints and smudging.
Astell&Kern’s latest user interface and support for Open App service is included in KANN ALPHA, which adds Android APK support, allowing users to install additional music streaming services to their player by simply copying and installing the corresponding APK file for the music service they wish to add. Services supported include Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Tidal, SoundCloud, Qobuz, SiriusXM, Tune-In, myTuner, Bandcamp and Deezer (supported streaming services varies by country). Offline content for supported apps can be stored in either internal or external player memory so you can listen to your favorite music streaming service tracks on the go.
KANN ALPHA will be available soon for $1,099.
]]>Irvine, CA - Astell&Kern, a global leader in portable high-resolution audio players and accessories, unveils the second model of the premium A&futura line, the SE200. The new player will be available for purchase July 2020 for $1,799.
The new SE200 is the world’s first digital audio player to be equipped with DACs from two different manufacturers, ESS and AKM, in one device. The SE200 was not designed with one AMP circuit, but separate AMP designs to optimize the different characteristics of the AKM and ESS DACs that are used in the player. The user can select one of the two DACs to customize the sound characteristics of the track you are listening to and easily switch sound output back and forth between the two DACs. The listener can also further customize the sound by choosing from a variety of DAC filters provided by the DAC manufacturer.
The design of the A&futura SE200 maintains a similar design identity to the previous generation SE100, combining bold curves with a trapezoidal shape. After experimenting with different materials for the rear of the SE200, Astell&Kern created a new ceramic rear cover, instead of the glass found on the previous generation A&futura SE100. The ceramic back material not only improves wireless network performance, but produces a more premium feel to the player. The aluminum body on the S200 provides maximum sound quality, while suppressing noise as much as possible. The use of laser ground extension technology gives you the best sound possible, without interference or distortion.
The SE200 supports native 32bit/384kHz and DSD256 playback and features LED lighting around the volume wheel which displays different colors of light, including red, green, blue, and purple to reflect music playback information including volume range, bit-rate of track currently playing and the current DAC that is being used for playback of music. With MQA support and a full decoder built in, the SE200 can unfold MQA encoded tracks all the way to the original resolution of the file. MQA playback is supported both via downloaded MQA audio files and through the Tidal app, allowing users to stream high resolution audio via Tidal Masters.
With the addition of an Octa-Core CPU, the A&futura SE200 not only boots faster, but is able to process digital audio playback without lag or compromise in sound. Astell&Kern’s advanced audio design, grounding and signal management technologies used in the SE200 provides more power output with less noise and minimal distortion.
Other features include a 5.0-inch HD touchscreen, 256GB of internal memory with support for microSD cards up to 1TB, Wi-Fi, DLNA networking, USB digital audio output, aptX HD, USB-C for data transfer and fast-charge support, and the ability to use the SE200 as a USB DAC for your Mac or Windows-based PC.
Astell&Kern’s latest user interface and support for Open App service is also included in the SE200, which adds Android APK support, allowing users to install additional music streaming services to their player by simply copying and installing the corresponding APK file for the music service they wish to add.

Michelle Limited In-Ear Monitor
Astell&Kern, along with partner Jerry Harvey Audio, the premier manufacturer of professional, studio quality in-ear monitors, jointly announce a new second generation In Ear Monitor. Called the Michelle Limited, a special edition product produced in Korea and the latest entry-level model in the Jerry Harvey Audio Universal Fit Siren Series.
The Astell&Kern Michelle Limited Universal Fit In-Ear Monitor will be available in October 2017 for $399. Click here to pre-order the Michelle Limited.
The Michelle Limited features three 3-way balanced armature drivers which boast a much smaller size and amazing efficiency compared to conventional dynamic drivers. The Michelle Limited also features Jerry Harvey Audio’s patented FreqPhase™ technology which adjusts the length and shape of the tube that is connected by a nozzle to each driver, to minimize the phase shift of each frequency and produce a more accurate sound.
Just like its siblings, the Michelle Limited is based on years of proven, patented, professional sound technology from Jerry Harvey Audio who has been making custom IEMs for years.
The Michelle Limited features a detachable, Silver Tinsel Cable with 2-pin connector. The cable is manufactured by first compressing the silver plated copper wire, which is then flattened and rolled into a steady interval that is then used to wrap around the Kevlar. Conventional straight cables do not handle the frequent bending of cables and often short out. The intertwined cable disperses the stress to the cable and offers better resilience.
This newly developed cable has astounding tensile strength and delivers the full dynamic range of music. Two types of cables are provided - a 3.5mm unbalanced and 2.5mm balanced cable.
Also included in the Michelle Limited package are 3 different sized silicon ear tips (S/M/ L) to provide the best in-ear fit, wax tool and a carrying case.
